内容記述 | Caryl Phillips was born in St. Kitts in 1958. Among contemporary Caribbean writers, Phillips is distinguished by his deep insight into the postcolonial world. Diaspora, which considers the loosened relationships among the people of African descent in postcolonial societies, is one of major themes in Phillip’s works. The idea of diaspora is more widely recognized today since many writers of African descent criticize black essentialism. This paper particularly focuses on diasporic aspects of Caryl Phillips, and argues that he presents contemporary Black Atlantic relationships through his understanding of identity and diaspora, by analyzing his novel, The Final Passage (1985) and his book-length essay, The Atlantic Sound (2000). | |||||||||||
