内容記述 | We come to notice one thing about the English expressions, when reading Dickens's novels. That is, things are sometimes depicted as if they were human beings. This kind of expression is what we call animistic expressions. The aim of this paper is to focus on the functions of some of animistic expressions in Dickens's novels, Oliver Twist, Martin Chuzzlewit, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. As a result of the consideration of animistic expressions, we can say that they are not mere rhetoric, but effective expressions for portraying the uneasy state of mind of a child, and for depicting the oppressed and frightened state of mind of an adult. | |||||
