This study deals with the possible function of metonymy especially in thinking patterns. We discuss this notion referring to the relation between `strategy and tactics' corresponding to the concept of `place and space' presented by Michel de Certeau. This theorist regards rhetoric as one of the most important `tactics', particularly focusing on metaphor as rhetoric.
