 note = {The focus of this study was on how people understand emotion expressed in a language that is not their native language and also whether there is a difference in the way male and females understand vocally expressed emotion. This experiment investigated the emotionally-neutral word "banana" as uttered with five different emotions: anger, sad, surprised, suspicious, and happy. 20 American listeners, 9 Korean listeners, and 20 Japanese listeners were asked to listen over headphones to the words and indicate which emotion they heard.
