In talking about pronunciation and hearing, I focus on the importance of Japanese speakers of English learning good English rhythm. In addition, in this paper I describe some of the classes that seemed to have been well-received and successful approaches to teaching practical English. I briefly mention the mutual exchange program between the Department of International Cultural Studies at Gifu City Women's College and Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota, U.S.A.
