Oxygen consumption and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) were measured continuously for 50 min: 40 min during the exercise and for a 10-min rest period postexercise. Total fat expenditure calculated from oxygen consumption and RER was 1.7 ± 1.9 g (mean ± SD) for the amino acid-drink group, lower than that for the placebo group (3.9 ± 3.4 g). Sucrose contained in the drink may disturb the expenditure of fat.
