The following procedure was used: (1) A group of English words to be used on a dictation test were selected from two middle school English textbooks. (2) A dictation test was given to students who had just entered junior high school. (3) A considerable number of answers on which roman letters could have some effects were extracted. (4) The answers found in (3) were classified into several groups.
